The Enchanting Huong Pagoda Festival: Unveiling the Magical Experience

The Huong Pagoda Festival, one of the most anticipated events in northern Vietnam, commenced on February 3, marking the 6th day of the first lunar month. With an expected turnout of 20,000 visitors on its opening day, the festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of cultural heritage and tradition.

A standout feature of the festival is the Cultural Tourism Week, a celebration of traditional art and folk games. This year, to accommodate the large number of attendees, boat and ferry services have been introduced on Suoi Yen, also known as Canary Stream. Additionally, the tickets to the pagoda grounds are equipped with QR codes, providing convenient access to all festival services, including entrance and water transportation.

Nguyen Manh Quyen, Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, presents the decision to recognize the Huong Son Complex (Huong Pagoda) as a special national relic and a city-level tourist area to Dang Van Trieu, Chairman of the My Duc District People’s Committee.

The first day of the festival was a seamless and enjoyable experience for tourists, who were immersed in the spring atmosphere and the breathtaking scenery that the area has to offer.

Located approximately 60 kilometers southwest of Hanoi, the Huong Pagoda Complex invites visitors to embark on a magical journey. Spanning across 4,900 hectares, the complex comprises pagodas, temples, and caves, each adorned with breathtaking stalactites and stalagmites, paying homage to Buddha and deities integral to local agricultural traditions.

Constructed in the latter part of the 17th century and meticulously renovated over time, the Huong Son complex stands as a testament to Vietnam’s rich Buddhist heritage, preserving its historical and cultural significance.

The Huong Pagoda Festival, traditionally held from the 6th day of the first lunar month until the end of the third lunar month, is the largest and longest festival in Hanoi and Vietnam. It offers a profound spiritual journey for pilgrims, who visit the complex to pay homage to Buddha, seek blessings, and immerse themselves in the serene beauty of the pagodas, temples, and caves.
