Vietnam Stun Former Champions Bahrain for Historic Beach Soccer Asian Cup Victory
Vietnam displayed exceptional focus and tactical prowess in their recent beach soccer match against Bahrain, taking an early lead through Tran Ngoc Bao’s goal.
Bahrain regrouped and equalized, but Vietnam’s resilience shone as they quickly regained the lead with a goal from Phan Dat.
With time ticking down, Bahrain’s Samoul scored to level the match at 2-2, forcing the game into extra time.
In beach soccer, there are no draws. As per the rules, if the score remains tied after the regulation periods, the game proceeds to extra time and, if necessary, penalty shootouts to determine a winner.
In the additional time, Vietnam showcased their brilliance with Mai Van Manh and Phan Dat each finding the back of the net, ultimately securing a well-deserved 4-2 victory.

This impressive win gives coach Mai Van Duc and his team a boost of confidence and a real chance to advance to the quarterfinals if they can replicate this performance in their final match against Malaysia on Tuesday.
In the context of Southeast Asian beach soccer, Vietnam holds a slight edge over Malaysia in terms of historical performance, having won the title once and finished as runners-up on two occasions, compared to Malaysia’s single title and runner-up finish.
The AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup 2025, hosted in Pattaya, Thailand, from March 20 to 30, features a competitive field of 16 teams.
Vietnam’s participation in this tournament marks their second appearance, having previously qualified in 2015 but falling short in the group stage.
This year, Vietnam finds themselves in Group D alongside formidable opponents: Oman (2015 champions), Bahrain (2006 champions), and Malaysia (quarterfinalists in 2019). Their opening match against Oman resulted in a 1-7 loss last Friday.
All eyes are now on the Vietnam team as they prepare for their decisive match against Malaysia, with the hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals on the line.
