Crafting a Legacy: Unveiling Hanoi’s Trade Secrets

THE HANOI CHRONICLE — Hanoi has been dedicated to conserving and fostering its craft villages, with a particular emphasis on celebrating traditional values to ensure their longevity and competitiveness in local and global markets.

According to the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment, the city is currently home to 337 certified craft and traditional craft villages, recognized for their exceptional products and dedication to preservation.

Nguyen Dinh Hoa, Deputy Director of the department, explained that the official recognition of these villages is a way to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of artisans, local authorities, and the community in keeping these traditional crafts alive.

To support the growth of these craft villages, the Hanoi People’s Committee has implemented a comprehensive plan with seven key solution groups. These solutions focus on policy development, scientific and technological advancements, human resource training, and trade promotions.

In parallel, the department is committed to executing the city’s overarching project, “Development of Handicraft Villages 2025-2030, with a Vision to 2050.”

Additionally, the Department of Agriculture and Environment will continue to promote One Commune One Product (OCOP) initiatives and develop tours to these craft villages, further enhancing their exposure and appeal.

This year, the Hanoi People’s Committee has recognized 14 exceptional craft and traditional craft villages. They are:

Quang Ba lotus tea village in Tay Ho District;

Co Chat embroidery village in Thuong Tin District;

Chung Chan sewing village in Phu Xuyen District;

Hat Mon carpentry village in Phuc Tho District;

Van An carpentry village in Son Tay Town;

Com sticky rice village in Cau Giay District;

Dinh Cong silversmith village and Mai Dong tofu village, both located in Hoang Mai District;

Ngu Xa bronze casting village in Ba Dinh District;

Ba Duong Noi kite-making village in Dan Phuong District;

And lastly, the traditional Com product village on Hang Than Street, Ba Dinh District.
