The Youth of Hanoi: Preserving Heritage Through Personal Narratives
THE HANOI TIMES — Hoa Yen Kinh Ky (Elegant Banquet of Hanoi’s Capital) offered a unique respite from modern life, providing more than just nostalgia. It invited a new generation to explore and reconnect with the richness of Vietnamese traditions, encouraging a deeper appreciation of their cultural heritage.

Com Viet Heritage hosted this cultural evening, a special event that transported young Hanoians to the past. They had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a world of calligraphy, folk games, and poetic fortune readings, all while creating their own handcrafted conical hats.
Dang Hoang Anh, Executive Director of Com Viet Heritage, shared the vision behind the event: “We wanted to create an immersive cultural experience where guests could not only discover but also actively engage with Vietnamese traditions. By participating in hands-on activities, they contribute to preserving the country’s unique identity.”

The venue, Com Viet, was transformed into a cultural showcase. Antique furniture and a vibrant red ao dai set the tone, while the space itself exuded a blend of traditional décor and heritage-inspired cuisine. It felt like stepping into a living exhibition, a true celebration of the Vietnamese soul.

The event offered a range of interactive activities, from calligraphy workshops to folk games. Guests had the unique opportunity to learn brush techniques from a master and practice the art of Vietnamese calligraphy. They also enjoyed playing bau cua, a traditional Vietnamese animal gambling game, evoking childhood memories in a festive atmosphere.

The evening culminated in a traditional feast, a ceremonial spread of Vietnamese dishes. From savory fried spring rolls and grilled pork wraps to the sweet delights of banh xu xe and peanut nougat, the menu celebrated the flavors and traditions of Vietnam.
